History Note:
The Silver Jubilee of King George V on 6 May 1935 marked twenty-five years since the King’s accession following the death of King Edward VII in 1910. The anniversary was celebrated across Britain and the Empire with parades, public ceremonies, thanksgiving services, and the issuing of commemorative medals, badges, and souvenirs.
Alongside the official 1935 Silver Jubilee Medal awarded to selected members of the armed forces and public services, a wide range of unofficial commemorative pieces were produced for public distribution. Local authorities, schools, and manufacturers commissioned medals like this one to mark the event and to provide affordable souvenirs of the national celebration.
These medals were typically produced in white metal, pewter, or silvered base metal, rather than solid silver, and often featured patriotic ribbons in the national colours.
*Condition*
The medal shows general wear and age-related patina, with noticeable rubbing to the portrait and inscriptions consistent with handling. The rim shows minor irregularities from manufacture or age. The ribbon is present but shows fraying and wear, particularly near the fold. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
