Marked on the spine: '00, Crown over 76 over E

Straight spear pointed blade, dated 1900 on the spine, dated 1902 on the ricasso with ‘EFD’ and Ordnance marks on the obverse. Steel bowl guard with turned over edge with chequered leather grip scales made of two parts, 5 bolts. In its original black leather and steel mounted scabbard marked 61.
The 1900 Pattern was the last cutlass approved for naval use, retaining the straight blade of the 1889 Pattern but adding a fuller along one-third of the blade. It featured a bowl-type hilt with an upturned rim and a concave insert to cushion the user's finger, derived from the 1890 Pattern Cavalry Sword. The grip was more rectangular with a knurled leather cover, and the scabbard remained identical to the 1889 Pattern. The 1900 Pattern cutlass was withdrawn from combat service in 1936 but remained for ceremonial use. Claims of its combat use during the 1940 Altmark incident and a 1952 boarding party are disputed, with the last confirmed combat use being in the 1900 Boxer Rebellion.
*Condition*
Good used condition. Given its age and service this cutlass is in very good condition. The blade is sharp with only one or two nicks and some rusting. The grip shows signs or wear and tear. The scabbard fits tightly and is in good condition with wear and tear to the leather and some rusting to the throat and chape but all stitching is intact. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
