*British 1888 Pattern, Mk 1. Type 2, Knife Bayonet by Sanderson, Sheffield. Dated 1899*

Knife bayonet for use with the .303 caliber M1888 Lee-Metford and Long Lee-Enfield rifles. This is the Mk. I 2nd Type which had grips secured by two large rivets an d clean out hole in the grip (rather than the pommel). Double edged Pattern 1888 spear point blade, the ricasso has the date engraved "4 99" for manufacture April 1899. and the Makers mark - Sanderson, Sheffield. On the obverse ricasso is the broad arrow over Sanderson inspector's mark (crown over S over 54) and "X" bending test mark. The grip has the number 34 etched. Wood slab grips held by two brass bolts with washers, coil spring locking catch. 302mm double-edged straight blade, with no fuller. The overall length is 422mm

*Condition*
Given its age this bayonet is in great condition. The blade is is in good condition with no nicks but some discolouration. The grip has age and service related wear and tear but is otherwise good. The press button works well. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
