~ British 1856 Pattern Yataghan Sword Bayonet ~

This pattern 1856 British sword bayonet was made for the Model 1853, .577 caliber Enfield (2-band) rifled infantry short-musket.

These bayonets were both issued to British units and exported in large numbers to both the Union and Confederate armies during the American Civil War.

This bayonet is a typical export example, as it does not bear British military issue or War Department ownership stamps.

The 577mm yataghan blade has a flat spine and broad single fuller on both sides. The recurved blade is double-edged for the last 120mm. The blade was service-sharpened and retains its fighting edge.

~ Dimensions ~

The blade is 22 inches (56 cm) long and the overall length of the piece is 27 ½ inches (70 cm).
It weighs 800 grams.

~ Condition ~

The blade developed a patina and slight surface rust in some places.

The grip is excellent. Please see the pictures.
