This 1856 pattern bayonet was made for the Model 1853, .577 calibre Enfield rifled infantry short-musket. It has a 58cm blade with a flat spine and broad single fuller on both sides and an 18cm upper false edge. This particular blade has inscribed “Captain M A Smith RA”. Suggesting it belonged to Cpt. Smith of the Royal Artillery. It is stamped with the date 2/76.

The ricasso bears a clearly stamped “WD” (War Department) and crow’s foot – indicating it was used in the British military. It also features the date 2/76 and other inspection dates.

~Condition~

The bayonet is in great condition with some light even pitting across both sides of the blade and no damage to the edges. The grips are slightly worn but remain strong and intact and the button works as it should. Please see pictures for more detail.
