The India General Service Medal (1854 IGSM), approved on 1 March 1854, was awarded to British and Indian Army personnel for minor military campaigns in India and nearby regions between 1852 and 1895. Indian Army units were predominant in these expeditions, which often involved challenging terrain and local resistance. The 1854 IGSM was replaced by the India Medal in 1895. The obverse features Queen Victoria with the inscription "VICTORIA REGINA," while the reverse depicts Victory crowning a seated warrior with a laurel wreath and lotus flowers.
