This is an 1827 pattern Royal Navy Officer’s sword which was made by (what looks to be) Chappel & Co Ltd from Portsmouth.

This sword has a single-edged blade with a flat spine, tapering to a false edge and spear point. It features a fuller that runs along both sides of the blade for most of its length.

The blade is covered in decorative etchings including a crown and the Royal Navy fouled anchor motif. At the base it reads “Chappel & Co Ltd, 267, Commercial, Portsmouth”. The original brown leather scabbard holds the sword firmly.

*Condition*

The blade is in great with most of its original etchings still clearly visible. The hilt and scabbard are highly polished. Please see pictures for more detail as they form part of our condition report.
