*British, 12th Royal Lancers Officer's Full Dress Mameluke Sword, with Dress Knot & Scabbard*

Measures approx: 76cm blade, 89cm overall

A 12th (The Prince of Wales') Royal Lancers officer's full dress Mameluke sword, featuring a 76cm curved blade with a clipped back, adorned with the regimental title, crowned crossed lances, and laurel wreaths. The regulation copper gilt hilt is decorated with acanthus leaves and fitted with two-piece riveted ivory grips. The sword comes in its red cloth-wrapped wooden scabbard with copper gilt mounts, including lion's mask hangers and an acanthus chape.

A Mameluke sword /ˈmæməluːk/ is a cross-hilted, curved, scimitar-like sword historically derived from sabres used by Mameluk warriors of Mameluk Egypt after whom the sword is named.

The regiment was originally formed in 1715 as the 12th Dragoons. It became the 12th (Prince of Wales's) Royal Regiment of Lancers in 1816, following service in the Napoleonic Wars.

*Condition*
This is in good condition given its age and service. It has some staining and nicks to the blade. The ivory grip is chipped next to the cross guard. The red scabbard has lost much of its colour and faded to brown and has worn through to the wooden scabbard in places. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
