~ Antique c1750 Edo Period Japanese Wakizashi Short Sword ~
The sword has a shagreen handle. steel blade, an ancillary knife and a bronze Tsbua with abstract mountain and floral decoration. The tang has three holes.
~ Wakizashi ~
The wakizashi (Japanese: side inserted sword) is one of the traditionally made Japanese swords worn by the samurai in feudal Japan. Its name refers to the practice of wearing it inserted through one's obi or sash at one's side, whereas the larger tachi sword was worn slung from a cord.

The sword is 59cm (23.5 inches) in total length with a 34.5cm (17.25 inches) blade.
