An Irish Constabulary 1842 Dated Tower Carbine And Bayonet

This is quite a rare, very well preserved firearm of the Irish Constabulary.

The lockplate is stamped with the Crown above VR and Tower 1842.

The barrel bears four inspector's marks and a War Department Mark.

The nipple is undrilled, meaning that the musket was in a state of conservation for many years, as the nipple seems to be a period piece.

The ramrod is original and stamped with serial no. 3900 and proofmarked by the war department.

The piece comes with a bayonet which is of a different type (an older short Brown Bess type) than the original that would've been used on it.

The bayonet is stamped "S Hill" and proofmarked. There is another stamp reading F.B.

~ Dimensions ~

The barrel is 26 ½ inches (67.3 cm) long and the overall length of the musket is 43 inches (109.3 cm).

~ Condition ~

The metalwork has age signs on it, a nice patina and minor pitting.

The bore looks untouched, chances been that the musket has never been used before. A pristine example.

The woodwork has minor nicks but its overall condition is excellent.

The piece half-cocks, cocks and releases with a strong spring.
