The bubble sextant is a specialized device used to measure the angles between celestial objects, such as the sun, moon, stars, and the horizon, to determine a position or to aid in navigation. This is the Mark 1XA version which features improvements over the previous models based on user feedback and technological advancements. Bubble sextants were commonly used in aircraft and ships before the introduction of satellite-based navigation systems like GPS. This particular example is complete with original case and bulkhead mount. These would have been used on the famous Avro Lancasters.
