A Victorian Royal Naval mess earthenware plate with a blue and white transfer decoration depicting sailors around the edge with the Queens crown and Mess No 27 to the centre.
This type of plate was in use on the Royal Navy around 1865. At this time one of the main draws to entering into military life was the guarantee of regular and substantial meals. This decorated plate would have been an everyday piece of tableware for the non-commissioned ranks. It is a celebration of Queen Victoria's care of duty to her Navy.
The rear of the plate is plain with one small glazed "H" in blue.
~ Condition ~
The plate is in good condition for its age. There is some glaze cracking to the surface and a few scratches to the glaze of the plate acquired through use. There are two tiny chips to the edge.

The plate measures 9.5 inches (24cm) in Diameter. It weighs 435g.
