A Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve (RNVR) 1827 Pattern Sword and Scabbard

Out of stock

SKU: JA_366350028 Category:

This is a rare example of a RNVR and its scabbard. The sword is named “J. Kay. Manson R.N.V.R.” on its folding guard.

The guard bears the kings crown above the anchor and it comes with it's gold bullion and navy blue tassel.

The blade is etched on one side with the Royal coat of arms and foliage and on the reverse with the fouled anchor beneath the kings crown and foliage. There is an open space on the blade for a cartouche that was never engraved.

The scabbard is made of black leather with brass fittings.

~ Dimensions ~

The blade is 31 ½ inches (80 cm) long and the overall length of the sword in the scabbard is 37 ½ inches (95 cm).

It weighs 1.1 Kg.

~ Condition ~

The blade is in fair condition with some dark spots, minor pitting and rust spots.

The basket and the grip remain in very good condition with nicely preserved gilding.

The scabbard is a bit tarnished but the leather can be easily brought back to its original look. Its brass fittings lost their shine, but remain damage free.
