Navy Torpedo MK.5 Depth & Roll Recorder

This is a Depth and Roll recorder which was last calibrated in 1977. An extraordinary piece of scientific equipment from J&S Marine Ltd. It was fitted into a practice warhead that contained no explosives, the depth and roll recorder measured torpedo performance during testing and training. It recorded the depth at which a torpedo travelled after launching, and whether the torpedo rolled from side to side. If the torpedo ran too deep, or if it rolled from one side to another, it would be less likely to hit its target, or could miss it altogether.

*Condition*

The recorder is in excellent condition and still retained in its protective box. The box is nicely made but has a few minor knocks and marks. Please see pictures for more detail as they form part of our condition report.
