~ 19th Century Staffordshire Flatback Of A Courting Sailor & Fruit Seller ~

This delightful group depicts a courting couple with the gentleman resting against a pillar.

The piece has hand painted details including their rosey faces, detailed clothing with gilt highlights and their shoes.

The pair is of a Georgian sailor, possibly a midshipman as he is holding a bicorn in his left hand, arms interlocked with his girlfriend fruit seller who has fruit displayed in her apron and upon her head.

~ Dimensions ~

The figurine has a height of 8.5 inches (21.5 cm), a width of 5 inches (12.7 cm) and a depth of 2 inches (5.1 cm). It weighs 550 g.

~ Condition ~

The gilding is very decent, the colours also apart from loss to the orange of the ladies shoes.

There is a hairline crack going upwards from the firing hole on the reverse, probably a firing time fault. There is a firing clay fold on the reverse of the base. The few chips that there are, are under the glaze.
