~ 19th Century Benim African Bronze Tribal Figure ~

This Benim (a country in the West of Africa) figure depicts a noble warrior with helmet & tribal dress, with a word and shield in hand, preparing for battle.

It is attached to a square bronze base with trellis sides.

The piece has developed a deep patina as well as green verdigris patches.

~ Dimensions ~

The statue has a height of 22.5 inches (57.2 cm).

The base measures 5 inches (12.7 cm) wide by 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) deep.

It weighs 9.33 Kg.

~ Condition ~

There is typical wear for a statue of this age. The sword is warped & broken to the lower left corner.

The legs and feet have open areas where the casting metal has not flowed to, typical of such pieces.

The carvings & features of the statue remain largely clear and in good order.
