What we have here is a 1941 German Cross that has been ‘de-nazified’. This was something that was done in 1957 to allow soldiers who had won this honour to wear them in public, since the swastika among other things is a banned image.
This medal is the German Cross silver variant, given for outstanding service and separate from the Iron Cross.
The construction is pretty standard for an award of its sort and designed by a Professor Klein of Berlin, made from different pieces of metal, shaped and riveted together.
This award was manufactured by the Munich maker Deschler & Sohn as we can clearly see the ‘1’ stamp on the pin.
