~ 1930s British made moveable Charlie Chaplin cardboard figure set ~

This is a fine example of the two dimensional cardboard Charlie Chaplin toy with hinged leg joints and the Original envelope and detailed instructions page.

The Charlie Chaplin cardboard doll, with his signature moustache and bowler cap is decked out in a red waist coast with a matching red bow tie and red flower.

The envelope advertises it to be "baffling, amusing, mystifying... hours of endless entertainment for young and old alike". The "confidential and secret" instructions explain how Charlie can be made to seemingly dance by himself in front of an audience. The trick involves a piece of black cotton stretched across the room which, when pulled, will make Charlie appear to dance: "you will find working this novelty the correct way there is no finer illusion".

~ Dimensions ~

The cardboard figure measures 13cm (5 inches) wide, with a height of 33cm (13 inches).

The set weighs 0.45g

~ Condition ~

There are two creases to instruction sheet, and the envelope has wear to the edges but this does not affect any of the illustration.

The figure itself is in fine condition, with a few creases to the upper body but all joints seem to be operating smoothly.
