~ 1923 Silver Collared Royal Doulton Stoneware Art Nouveau Styled Tobacco Jar And Cover ~
A lovely subtle lidded tobacco jar of mottled autumnal tones, the pattern being of an applied design in an Art Nouveau form.
The Royal Doulton backstamp dates the piece to between 1923 and 1927, it has a stamped pattern number of 1949 and is inscribed 'PB' or 'RB' for a Royal Doulton artist that is unknown to me. The lid is marked 'LW' for Louisa Wakely. It is usual for the lids to be 'thrown' by a different potter.
The silver collar is hallmarked for London 1923. There is a worn makers mark starting 'C & B', possibly for Cooper Brothers & Sons Ltd

The jar has a height (including the lid) of 6.25 inches (16cm) and has a diameter of 5 inches (12.5cm).
