~ 1917 Dated SMLE MKIII* Lee Enfield Old Spec Deactivated ~

The insignia featuring a Crown Cypher over "GR" and "BSC 1917 ShtLE Mk 111*" denotes its production at the Birmingham Small Arms Factory, with "ShtLE" standing for Short Lee-Enfield. The serial number 1208 is located to the right of the receiver ring and inside the sight.

The Lee–Enfield, also known as the Enfield, is a bolt-action, magazine-fed rifle that was the primary firearm of the British Empire from 1895 to 1957. The Mk. III* variant, introduced as a streamlined version for wartime use, saw extensive service in both World Wars and beyond. This model notably excluded the magazine cut-off, volley sights, and windage adjustments on the rear sight, while retaining the protective ear to the right, a design choice to accommodate the omitted windage screw.
