~ 1915 Dated SMLE No.1 Mk3* Bolt Action Rifle With Original Leather Sling ~

The rifle is stamped with "Enfield 1915 SMLE Mk3*", above it sits the King's Crown of George V. There are a number of inspectors proof marks throughout the metalwork. The rifle is serial numbered X7978. The bayonet lug and wooden stock have matching serial numbers of E18016. The buttstock is stamped with an arsenal mark along with a pair of facing broad arrows. The leather sling is stamped with "WCD 415".

~ Lee Enfield Mk3* ~

During WW1, the SMLE Mk3 was found to be too complicated to manufacture, and demand outstripped supply; in late 1915 the Mk3* was introduced incorporating several changes, the most prominent of which were the deletion of the magazine cut-off mechanism, which when engaged permits the feeding and extraction of single cartridges only while keeping the cartridges in the magazine in reserve, and the long-range volley sights.

~ Condition ~

The rear sight is in working order. The magazine can be extracted. The action can be cycled and the safety works. Both the metalwork and woodwork are in excellent condition, there are no cracks, rust or pitting. Overall, this is an exceptional example of a Lee Enfield Mk3*.

~ Dimensions ~

The rifle weighs 4kg. The overall length is 113cm (44.5 inches). The barrel length is 64cm (25.2 inches).
