~ 1900's The Young Engine Builder Locomotive Construction Set ~

A circa 1900's wooden locomotive building set for Boys entitled "The Young Engine Builder Construction Set".

The set consists of a large amount of wooden pieces which would have been used to construct a wooden locomotive. The set would be held together with the dowels which are included. These pieces are all housed in the original box with a colourful illustrated lid, depicting a moving locomotive and proclaiming "Just the box for a boy".

The cover has a locomotive on it with the London and South Western railway livery. As the London And South Western Railway ceased to exist in 1924 I would hazard that this may well be older than suggested, also the locomotive illustrated dates from the 1890s.

~ Dimensions ~

The box has a width of 18.5 inches (47 cm), a depth of 10 inches (25.4 cm) and a height of 2.7 inches (6.9 cm).

The set weighs 2.2 kg.

~ Condition ~

The wood pieces are in excellent condition. Instructions are not present so we cannot guarantee the completeness of the set.

The box has some age wear and some of the flaps have started to come loose from each other. The lid left side flap is present but detached.
