~ 1900 Boer War South Africa Queen Victoria Chocolate Tin ~
In 1899 Queen Victoria decided to send a gift of tin boxes of chocolate to her troops serving in South Africa. It was intended that every soldier and officer should receive a box.
The tin features a gilt portrait of Queen Victoria on a red ground with the royal cypher 'VRI', and the inscription, 'South Africa 1900'. It also features the inscription 'I wish you a happy New Year' in the Queen's handwriting.
The tin has NO contents.

The tin measures 9.5cm (3 ¾ inches) by 15cm (6 inches).
~ Condition ~
The tin has lost most of the gilt and blue colouring from the edges and sides and a little of the gilt to the portrait.
The tin is otherwise in good condition with only general wear commensurate with age.
