This is an 1889 pattern British Royal Navy cutlass. The 1889 pattern was one of the last patterns of Royal Naval cutlasses to be made. It features a steel bowl hilt with a ringed iron grip. The proof and inspectors’ marks are still visible along with the ‘X’ mark to show it has passed the bending tests.

*Condition*

The blade is heavily pitted on one side and has some pitting on the reverse. The grip is in very good condition and the hilt has some minor pitting and a few marks. Please see pictures for more detail as they form part of our condition report.
