~ 1857 Dated Lanchester Volunteer Forces Rifle ~
A very rare Lancaster rifle, not to be confused with the two band Enfield.
It has the rare Lancaster patent oval rifled bore, against light angles the oval rifling reveals itself.
The V.R. Enfield lockplate is dated 1857.
It has its correct loading rod and bar-on-barrel for the brass hilted Lancaster sword bayonet.
The steel butt plate is marked with the broad arrow and 'VF' for the the volunteer force. The breech is marked 'Lancaster' with London proof marks.
~ Condition ~
Please refer to the images for the condition. There is a split wood repair to the right of the lock. The metal work has been cleaned bright. The hammer is a replacement. It works well on both full and hall cock with a decent spring. If you can find the correct lock, you have a £2k gun.
~ Dimensions ~
The rifle is 122 cm (48 inches) in total length with a 81 cm (31.5 inches) barrel.
