*1827 Brass Ships Bell with Phoenix-Griffin Insignia*
It has the date 1827 embossed on one side and an embossed Phoenix/Griffin mark on the other side.

The ship's bell played a major role in shipboard life, it was traditionally rung every half hour to indicate the ship's time. The bell was also rung to warn other vessels when in reduced visibility or in the event of emergencies. A constantly ringing ship's bell is also internationally recognised as a distress signal.
