Here we have a beautiful Kastane, a type of sword native to what is now Sri Lanka and used by the Sinhalese people.

The Sinhalese Kastane is more of a ceremonial weapon these days but in history has been depicted as a fighting weapon equivalent to a short sabre or hanger in Europe.

The most famous example of these is oddly enough the English Civil War figure Alexander Popham who is famously painted carrying something very similar to this sword in his armour when he was the commander of a Dragoon regiment.

These are fascinating weapons with a history that spans centuries and continents .

~ Dimensions ~

The sword is 24 inches (64 cm) long.

The blade is 19.5 inches (50 cm) long.

The sword weighs 565g.

~ Condition ~

The sword has some damage concentrated on the grip to be expected for its age and is otherwise in nice condition with most of its lacquer and gilt remaining.
