1796 Pattern Infantry Sword with Scabbard by Woolley & Deakin

This is a decent example of a single edge curved blade 1796 pattern Infantry trooper`s sword.

The grip is made of wood which was generally wired, but for practical reasons some troopers prefer them unwired, as is the case here.

The guard is the simple stirrup knuckle bow in steel.

This trooper’s sword has no marks or stamps except for the manufacturer`s inscription "Wooley & Deakin`s Birm." on the face of the scabbard.

This sword pattern was used extensively in the early stages of the Napoleonic Wars.

~ Dimensions ~

The total length is 40 inches (100 cm) long.

The blade is 32 inches (62 cm) long.

The sword weighs 1.95 Kg.

~ Condition ~

The blade edge shows some chips and the blade has the light scratches expected with usage.

There is some age related pitting.

The guard has developed some surface rust but overall the item presents well.
