*British, circa 1800, 11 Bore, Flintlock Manstopper Pistol, by Smith London. Obsolete Calibre.*

A percussion manstopper pistol is a type of firearm that was commonly used in the 19th century. It was designed to stop an attacker in their tracks with a single shot, hence the name “manstopper.”

The pistol is approx 12 inches in overall length, with a 6 1/4 inch long barrel, and is very well appointed. It is all iron fitted, with floral engraving on the lock and trigger guard, as well as on the barrel tang, it has the makers name "Smith" engraved on the lock plate and "London" on the the top-flats of the barrel, together with a platinum line inlay and vent plug at breech. Roller bearing frizzen spring. It has a full-stock with chequered bag-shaped butt. The pistol also features a captive iron stirrup ramrod.

* Condition *
Hammer cocks in both positions and is fully operational. The ramrod is loose in the stirrup. The gun has a lovely patina and would make a wonderful addition to any collection. It is consistent with its age and life. Overall a very nice example. Please see photographs as this forms part of the report.
