This is a copy piece cast in bronze. It is a round plaque with roped border and crown. The centre depicts a spray of flowers over a whirlpool.

Charybdis is a sea monster in Greek mythology. Subsequent scholarship has suggested that it was based on a whirlpool in the Strait of Messina.

It is presented on a wooden plaque, though it not attached.

HMS Charybdis (F75), the sixth ship to bear that name, was a Leander-class frigate launched in 1968 and sunk as a target in 1993.

The crest is in good condition for its age, with minimal wear.

The crest has a height of 17.5 cm (7 inches) and a width of 13.5 cm (5.25 inches).
