French 1882 Infantry Officer Sword

SKU: JA_678648763 Category:

Here we have a delightful piece dating from WW1 or the previous few decades.

This sword follows the common European design with blades becoming straighter and stiffer with less of a cutting edge and a more thrust centric design. This sword has a four bar hilt made of German silver (monogrammed with what I believe is and O and a B), the blade is interesting since it’s an oval cross section with fullers on opposing sides of the blade, the sword was marked and made by the Delpech manufacturer.

The sword is the last true combat sword carried by the French forces into battle in Europe and French Indochina and a brilliant example with its correct knot.

~ Dimensions ~

The sword is 41 inches (104 cm) long.

The blade is 35 inches (89 cm) long.

The sword weighs 1.12Kg.

~ Condition ~

The sword is in good condition for its age with some minor wear to the plating on the scabbard and a pinch towards the end of the scabbard.
