*German, WW2 - 1944 Dated, Third Reich Hitler Youth Belt & Buckle with Applied Wehrmacht Officer’s Cap Cockade – RZM M4/44*

An original German Third Reich Hitler Youth (Hitlerjugend / HJ) leather belt complete with its correct brass Hitler Youth buckle, additionally displaying an applied Wehrmacht officer’s cap cockade mounted to the leather strap. The buckle retains the classic Hitler Youth emblem comprising the national eagle above a diamond-shaped swastika, surrounded by the organisation motto “Blut und Ehre” (“Blood and Honour”). The buckle remains fitted to its original brown leather belt and presents with an attractive untouched aged patina throughout.

The reverse of the buckle is clearly stamped with the official RZM approval mark together with the maker code M4/44, identifying manufacture by Paul Cramer & Co., Lüdenscheid, one of the recognised wartime producers of political belt buckles for the Third Reich period. The leather belt itself is stamped 95 and 97, indicating the belt sizing in centimetres. The belt measures approximately 95 cm excluding the buckle and 97 cm including the clasp, with a width of approximately 4 cm.

Mounted separately to the belt is an original Wehrmacht officer’s peaked cap cockade and wreath insignia. This silvered alloy badge features the traditional oakleaf wreath surrounding a red felt national cockade. The reverse retains its attachment prongs. While clearly period German and original in its own right, this insignia was originally intended for wear on an officer’s visor cap rather than as part of the Hitler Youth belt assembly, and appears to have been later applied to the belt for display or collector interest.

Approx. Measurements – Belt length excluding clasp: 95 cm. Overall length including clasp: 97 cm. Belt width: 4 cm.

History Note:
The Hitler Youth organisation served as the official youth movement of the National Socialist regime in Germany, with its distinctive “Blut und Ehre” belt buckle becoming one of the most recognisable items of political uniform equipment of the period. RZM markings were used to regulate and standardise production across authorised manufacturers. Paul Cramer & Co. of Lüdenscheid was among the firms contracted to manufacture such buckles during the wartime era.

*Condition*
The belt shows honest period wear, age-related creasing, surface cracking, and rubbing to the leather consistent with age and use. The buckle retains good detail overall with areas of finish wear and patination throughout. The applied officer’s cockade shows age and light wear with some tarnishing to the silvered finish. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
