*German, WW2, Hitler Youth (Hitlerjugend) Armband, Multi-Construction Cloth Example*
An original Second World War Hitler Youth (Hitlerjugend / HJ) armband of classic wartime construction, retaining its separately applied diamond panel with black swastika device on a white field over the distinctive red armband body. This is a textbook period example showing the mixed-material construction and hand-finished assembly often encountered on wartime HJ insignia.
The armband is formed from red cotton cloth with a separately stitched horizontal white band and centrally applied white lozenge carrying a black swastika. Close examination of the insignia shows the black elements to be machine-applied with visible textured stitching, while the reverse retains the characteristic diamond-shaped stitch outline from the separately attached central panel. The construction and materials are entirely consistent with wartime-produced examples, showing the simplified and practical methods frequently seen on later-period cloth insignia.
Approx. Measurements – Length: 28.8 cm. Width: 9.3 cm.
History Note:
The Hitler Youth (Hitlerjugend, HJ) served as the youth organisation of the German state during the Third Reich period, becoming increasingly militarised throughout the late 1930s and wartime years. Armbands such as this formed a highly visible element of uniform wear and were issued across various levels of the organisation. Construction methods varied considerably between manufacturers and production periods, with examples ranging from finely woven early pieces to more simplified wartime cotton and multi-part stitched examples produced under material restrictions.
*Condition*
Displays honest period wear and age throughout. The armband remains stitched together at the rear seam and shows light staining, age-related discolouration, and handling wear. Stitching at the seam shows some fraying and opening consistent with use and age. The central diamond displays slight edge wear and minor loose threads, while the reverse clearly shows period stitch patterns from its original construction.
