*Barry Sheene MBE – Signed Suzuki Grand Prix Photograph, Two Autographed Photo Cards & 1977 Promotional Interview LP (4)*
A strong and well-assembled group of original Barry Sheene–related autograph material and period Suzuki Grand Prix promotional items, centred firmly on the 1976–1977 peak of Sheene’s career with Suzuki, and including the original 1977 Suzuki Grand Prix promotional interview LP issued by Heron Suzuki GB.
The group is anchored by a hand-signed colour postcard of Barry Sheene in Texaco Heron Suzuki team colours, signed boldly in blue marker across the image. The signature is well placed, fluid, and consistent with authenticated examples from the late 1970s. Approx. 10.2 × 15.3 cm.
Accompanying this is a second autographed Texaco “Extra Smileage” promotional card, a desirable and instantly recognisable piece of Suzuki-linked advertising ephemera from the same period. It is signed boldly in blue marker on the back. Approx. 9 × 14 cm.
Completing the group is the original 1977 Suzuki Grand Prix promotional 12-inch LP, produced for Heron Suzuki GB Ltd. The record features Barry Sheene, Pat Hennen, and Steve Parrish, interviewed by Dave Lee Travis at Brands Hatch, discussing Suzuki’s Grand Prix programme and GS/GT model range. Issued for dealer and promotional use rather than commercial sale, the LP provides a rare audio snapshot of Suzuki’s racing operation at the height of Sheene’s success and firmly anchors the group within its contemporary promotional context. Sleeve approx. 18.4 × 18.4 cm. Produced by: Maurice Spalding Publicity Ltd, London. Catalogue: SRTS/CUS 77071 A / B.
Together, these items form a cohesive and well-documented Barry Sheene Suzuki Grand Prix group, combining autograph material, licensed photographic imagery, and original promotional media rather than isolated or unrelated memorabilia.
Historical Note: Barry Sheene MBE (1950–2003) remains the most famous British motorcycle racer of the post-war era. Riding for Suzuki, he secured the 500cc World Championship in 1976 and again in 1977, becoming a global sporting figure whose influence extended far beyond racing circles.
The items in this group relate directly to Suzuki’s UK promotional push during that period, combining autographed fan material, dealer-issued publicity, and in-store promotional media. Unlike modern licensed memorabilia, such material was produced in limited quantities, intended for short-term promotional use, and rarely preserved as complete groups.
The 1977 Suzuki Grand Prix LP captures Sheene at the height of his fame and places him alongside fellow Suzuki riders Pat Hennen and Steve Parrish, interviewed by Dave Lee Travis at Brands Hatch, making it an unusually well-documented snapshot of Suzuki’s Grand Prix programme at its peak.
