~ WW1 No.23 Early Lever Mills Bomb C.A.V. 8/16 ~

The No. 23 was an improved version of the original No. 5 grenade. It was introduced in 1917 as part of a series of refinements to make the Mills Bomb more versatile and easier to use in the field.

The base plug is marked No. 23 C.A.V. 8/16

Key Differences from No. 5:

The base plug was redesigned to allow attachment of a rod so it could be fired from a rifle grenade discharger.

The fuse mechanism and overall body remained very similar to the No. 5.

The No. 23 Mk I and Mk II were followed by the No. 23 Mk III, which included further simplifications for mass production.
