*British, 1933, “Moscow” by Winston Churchill, Original Daily Mail News-stand Poster, Framed, Dated April 20, 1933*

An original Daily Mail advertising poster dated April 20, 1933, promoting Winston Churchill’s article series “Moscow”. Printed in bold red text on buff-toned newsprint, it reads faintly:

“Daily Mail — Moscow by Winston Churchill.”

This example has significant age fading from light exposure, though the date and lettering remain discernible. Professionally framed and glazed with a gilt-moulded frame and double mount, preserving this rare piece of interwar British press history.

Approximate overall frame measurements: 68.5 cm x 94.3 cm. Poster size (visible): 50.5 cm x 76 cm

Historical Note:
Churchill’s “Moscow” series appeared in the Daily Mail during the spring of 1933, at a time when he was a prominent backbencher and outspoken critic of both Soviet Communism and Nazi Germany. These articles were among his early public warnings about totalitarian ideologies. The posters advertising his writings were displayed nationwide for only a few days, and few have survived due to their fragile, disposable nature.

The date April 20, 1933, falls just months after Hitler’s appointment as Chancellor and during Churchill’s growing campaign to alert Britain to the dangers of dictatorship—making this poster an evocative artefact of his political and journalistic career in the interwar years.

*Condition*
Original printed poster on thin newsprint, now heavily faded and toned with edge losses and light staining consistent with age. Paper shows brittleness typical of pre-war newsprint stock. Now professionally mounted and framed by Warwick Leadlay Gallery, Greenwich, London. Despite fading, the text and publication date remain visible, and the overall presentation is attractive and historically resonant. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
