*British, WWII, Royal Navy HMS St. Vincent Sweetheart Brooch, Enamel & White Metal*

A scarce WWII period Royal Navy sweetheart brooch for HMS St. Vincent, with enamel scroll and Pegasus insignia – a fine sentimental piece of naval history.

A charming WWII period Royal Navy sweetheart brooch for HMS St. Vincent, measuring 2.2 cm x 2.6 cm (excluding pin). The brooch is crafted in white metal with a rich blue enamel scroll reading “H.M.S. ST. VINCENT”. The centre features the distinctive insignia of a winged horse (Pegasus) before a naval crown. Mounted on a simple bar brooch fitting, typical of wartime sweetheart jewellery gifted by sailors to their loved ones.

Historical Note:
The name HMS St. Vincent was borne by several Royal Navy ships, but during WWII it is most closely associated with the Royal Navy training establishment at Gosport, where boy seamen were prepared for naval service. Sweetheart brooches like this one were immensely popular in both World Wars, serving as sentimental tokens of love and pride, usually purchased by sailors and given to wives, fiancées, or family members. The Pegasus emblem and naval crown formed the distinctive badge of St. Vincent, proudly worn on sweetheart pieces such as this example.

*Condition*
The brooch is in good, original condition. The blue enamel retains strong colour, with only light wear and minor surface losses visible under close inspection. The white metal has developed a natural age patina, with some toning and oxidation, particularly to the reverse and the bar fitting. The bar, clasp, and hinge remain intact and functional. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
