* Northern Ireland, L2A2 Rubber Bullet and Case, Inert *
Approximate Measurements of the rubber bullet: 15cm tall, 3.8cm base diameter. The overall length in the case is 22cm.
The L2A2 baton round was used for riot control, first deployed by the British Army in Belfast in August 1970. Nearly 56,000 rounds were fired until 1976, when they were replaced by plastic baton rounds, which had been used alongside rubber rounds since 1973. Instructions specified that the rounds should be fired at the ground to ricochet into targets, but direct hits caused serious injuries and fatalities. Seventeen people, mostly in nationalist and republican areas, died from these rounds, with many others injured. The original British rubber bullet measured 6 inches (150 mm) in length, 1.5 inches (38 mm) in diameter, and weighed approximately 4 oz (145 g). It was fired from a modified and lengthened Very pistol, designated the L67.
