*German, WWII, AZ23 Nose Fuze, Relic Condition, Inert*
A German Second World War nose fuze (likely AZ23), recovered in relic condition. Measuring approximately 6 cm at the base and 6.5 cm in height (including threaded section), the fuze retains its characteristic domed steel striker cap over a conical alloy body. The body has undergone extensive corrosion and mineralisation, giving a stone-like texture consistent with long-term burial.
Historical Note: The AZ23 series was a widely used nose fuze for German high-explosive and armour-piercing projectiles, fitted to calibres including 7.5 cm, 8.8 cm, and 10.5 cm. Designed for both instantaneous and short-delay detonation, the fuze was employed in field artillery, tank, and anti-aircraft guns. Its robust design and adaptability led to numerous sub-variants, such as the AZ23/28 and AZ23v.
*Condition* Relic condition with heavy corrosion and complete mineralisation of the aluminium body, creating a stone-like surface. Steel striker cap intact with pitting. Threaded base present but degraded. Stable for display. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
