*German, 1936, Berlin Olympic Games Commemorative Barometer by Lufft*

A rare and highly collectible German barometer commemorating the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games, manufactured by the renowned firm Lufft.

This finely crafted barometer features a square silvered dial with black printed scale markings and traditional German weather indications, including Sturm (storm), Regen (rain), Veränderlich (changeable), Schön (fair), and Trocken (dry). Prominently displayed on the dial are the iconic five Olympic rings, marked "Berlin 1936", emphasizing its connection to the historically significant Olympic Games held in Nazi Germany.

The barometer is mounted on a solid wooden plaque measuring approximately 7 x 8 inches (18 x 20 cm), with a bevelled and shaped edge design, indicative of mid-1930s German craftsmanship. The back is marked "116 M", likely denoting a model or inventory number, and carries both an engraved and painted Lufft logo, confirming authenticity.

Lufft, founded in Stuttgart in 1881, was a leading German manufacturer of precision meteorological instruments and produced various commemorative items for major events, including these Olympic souvenir pieces.

Historical Background
The 1936 Summer Olympic Games in Berlin were not only a major international sporting event but also a significant moment in political history, as the Nazi regime used them for propaganda purposes. Many commemorative and souvenir items were produced at the time, ranging from badges and medals to functional objects such as this barometer. Items made by established German manufacturers like Lufft are particularly sought after for their quality and documented historical context.

*Condition*
The barometer remains in good overall vintage condition. The dial is clear and legible, with only minor surface wear consistent with age. The chrome bezel shows slight tarnishing and small signs of oxidation. The wooden mount displays scratches, edge wear, and a few scuffs, particularly along the lower edges, but remains structurally sound. The rear retains its original brass hanging hardware and clear Lufft markings. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
