*British, WW2, A Class HM Submarine - Possibly HMS Acheron – Original Photograph*

Original Photograph of WW2 A Class Submarine - possibly HMS Acheron. This photograph originally formed part of the Lou Britton British Submarine Collection, which was acquired by the Royal Navy Submarine Museum, Gosport in 2007.

Approximate Dimensions: 17.4cm x 12.8cm

Planned as a fleet of 46, only 16 A-Class submarines were completed, with the remainder cancelled on 29 October 1945—none saw active service in WWII. Classified as Large Patrol Submarines, the A-Class was developed in response to the Pacific Theatre's unique climate and operational demands. Designed specifically for Far East service, these submarines featured higher surface speeds, all-welded construction, improved habitability with dedicated air-conditioning, and provisions for integrating wartime equipment upgrades.

HM Submarine ACHERON was laid down in No 7 covered slip at Chatham in August 1943.
