The AK-47 (Avtomat Kalashnikova model 1947) is a renowned and widely used assault rifle developed by Mikhail Kalashnikov. It is known for its reliability, simplicity, and widespread use around the world. The standard AK-47 features a fixed wooden or synthetic stock, this variant has a folding stock. The folding stock on an AK-47 provides certain advantages, particularly in terms of compactness and portability. It allows the rifle to be easily folded, reducing its overall length for storage, transportation, or use in tight spaces. When the stock is folded, the AK-47 becomes more maneuverable and easier to conceal, making it popular among special forces, vehicle crews, and airborne troops.
Izhevsk is the site of one of the most famous arsenals in Russia, at which Mikhail Kalashnikov designed his famous AK-47 assault rifle. During Soviet times Izhevsk was a closed city, with restricted access for non-residents.
The AK47 bayonet and scabbard were patterned after Russia's first knife bayonet, the M1940 bayonet
