*German, WW2, Mod.98 (K98) Mauser Bolt Action Rifle, Dated 1937, Made by Mauser Werke Obendorf, Waffenampt Stamps, Matching Serial Numbers, Portuguese Contract, Muzzle Guard, Deactivated*

Serial Number: C1 9745, 7.92 Cal., 24" Barrel Length.

This is a fantastic find, not only does it have all matching numbers, numerous waffenampt stamps, but it also has a muzzle guard, suggesting it may have seen service on the Eastern Front. The muzzle guard stops snow or water freezing the barrel and causing a recoil.

The crest on the barrel indicates that this rifle was initially manufactured for the Portuguese contract in 1937. However, it never reached Portugal and was instead utilized by the German Wehrmacht. The rifle bears numerous authentic Mauser waffen stamps, including the Eagle over 63 mark. According to Richard D. Law's book "The Backbone Of The Wehrmacht - The K98k Rifle," despite being designated for Portugal, the Wehrmacht redirected a significant quantity of these rifles for its own use, retaining the original Portuguese markings.

Marked on the top of the chamber with the Portuguese crest and date 1937. On the side of the receiver is the serial number C1 9475 next to a Nazi Eagle, further along the side of the chamber is stamped "Mauser-Werke A.6. Obendorf A/M". The barrel is stamped on the side C1 9475 next to a Nazi Eagle. It is stamped twice underneath on the trigger guard 19745 and 9745 on the sight, top of the bolt, safety lever and bolt handle and other the marked parts.

On June 21st, 1935, the German Wehrmacht officially selected the Karabiner 98k (abbreviated as “kurz,” meaning “short”) as its standard service rifle, a role it maintained throughout World War II. This bolt-action rifle, chambered in 8mm Mauser (7.92 x 57), features an internal 5-round magazine.
