A 6-pounder gun, or 6-pdr, typically refers to a 57-millimeter (2.2 in) gun that shoots a projectile weighing around 6 pounds (2.7 kg). This shell case was probably for QF 6-pounder Hotchkiss, a quick-firing naval gun from the 1880s. It has been lightly shaped into a tulip style vase as a war time memento.
Base 7.5cm diameter, 2cm diameter fuse, Height approx 28cm.
Markings III, RL, Y, 43, CF T, 1 encircled, 12 03, NN8.
RL is short for Royal Laboratories, Woolwich Arsenal. CF - Charge loaded with cordite / full charge. The 1 in a circle indicates that the case was to be fitted with a Mk 2 primer. "T" indicates that the shell was last filled at the Tipnor filling station.
