*Original Framed Print, by Colonel P.H Smitherman, "Officer, 12th Lancers, 1820", Published C.1962*

This sought after print was originally published in 1962 by © Hugh Evelyn and drawn by Colonel Philip Henry Smitherman, Royal Corps of Signals (1910-1982), a renowned military artist.

Framed: 355mmx287mm

Established in 1715, the 12th (Prince of Wales’s) Royal Lancers served for three centuries, participating in both World Wars. It merged with the 9th Queen’s Royal Lancers in 1960 and with the Queen’s Royal Lancers in 2015 to become the Royal Lancers. Pioneering the British Army's first Lancer dress in 1816, influenced by Napoleon’s Polish Lancers, the officer's attire featured a distinctive schapka hat with swan's feathers, a jacket with tails, and fashionable-cut trousers resembling those worn by the Hussars.
