*Broadhurst Clarkson 1918 34" Brass Military Sniper Telescope with stitched leather barrel*

This unique solid brass telescope is a World War1 trench Sniper or Spotting telescope. It is stamped with the military "war arrow **. TEL: Sig: (Mk1V) also G.S. BROADHURST. CLARKSON & CO. LONDON 1918. 34971." The metal end cap is marked "Patent Applied For".

The powerful telescope has 3 brass draws. Fully extended 34". Fully shut 11.5". Diameter at base 2.5"

During the 18th century, Benjamin Martin established an instrument business that eventually passed through several owners until Alexander Clarkson took over in 1873. In 1892, Broadhurst became a partner but later split from Clarkson in 1908. Recognizing the value of the Clarkson name, Broadhurst started trading as Broadhurst Clarkson & Co and established Telescope House as their headquarters. With the onset of World War I in 1914, the business expanded to support the war effort and opened additional facilities for lens manufacturing.

*Condition*
This is a superb piece of history and in very good condition, it unscrews easily for cleaning. It's missing the top leather lense cap. There are one or two minor dings to the brass and the leather has a lovely age appropriate patina with some scuffing. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
