*Rare, British King William Officers Mameluke Sword and Scabbard by Hamburger Harwood & Co*
The 75cm Mameluke is etched with early tablet form version of William IV's royal cypher and floral decoration plus the maker's name "Hamburger Harwood & Co, 30 King Street, Covent Garden London". Decorative brass cross guard and studs. Ivory grip with finial complete with steel scabbard with brass engraved locket, chape and suspension mounts.
The Swordsmiths, Hamburger & Co. were based in King Street, Covent Garden from 1812 to 1826.
*Condition*
One of the ivory grip pieces is broken through and again on the pommel, though all pieces are present but the hilt is otherwise quite good for ivory and its age; the hilts on these sabres were very prone to loss and damage, so this is a well above average example. The steel scabbard has had some corrosion and some minor dings. The blade is firm in the hilt and sheathes / draws quite well. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
